KILL THIS VIBE(FEELS SO GOOD)
On February 3, 1959 Ritchie Valens was one of the musicians that was killed during a plane crash which became known as "The Day That Music Died." The plane was headed to a small town called Fargo, ND.
Brian Carmona who transplanted from Los Angeles, CA to Fargo, ND knew his connection to the Chicano artist was a inspiration to musically create something in Fargo, ND. " I showed a couple of my friends a demo of this song I started and asked if they wanted to start a band, luckily they said yes because I was feeling creatively dried up and I was ready to sell real estate."
The Chateau is a three piece band who is here to remind the world that "quarantine sucks, but music is fun!"
"Kill This Vibe (Feels So Good)" is the debut single from the trio out July 10th, 2020. The single was recorded in the basement of Carmona's house during the global pandemic. "I was sort of losing my mind. Not being able to go anywhere besides my backyard was tough. I sat at the piano and out came the first line of the song...
"feels like i'm dying I don't want this anymore..."
"I had initial shock when those words came out and I knew I had something real to say. "
Carmona set out to write a song to help him cope with the pandemic which led to inspiration by the stories of musicians and actors such as James Dean, Bob Dylan, and Kurt Cobain. "I wanted to put the vibe these people gave off into my own personality as a motivation to get myself out my head, because for a moment it was dark place which is why I referenced the "27 club" which a lot of great musicians and actors lost their life at the age of 27. I didn't want to stay in that place and wrote a chorus which lifted me out of what felt like hell."
Midway through the process Carmona recruited Alex Strabala (Lovelytheband) to play guitar on the record, and drummer Aj Jones. "At this point it was feeling more like a ballad, and I felt I needed to bring some hope and light into the chorus. I love when songs have a juxtaposition. Lyrically this song feels dark in the verses, but the chorus takes you out of it. The chorus is my nod to California, low riders, and the Beach Boys which melodically was my inspiration for the record."
Kill This Vibe(Feels So God) has a play time just over three minutes. Fans of Daft Punk, Foster The People, Portugal The Man will be more than tempted to hit the replay button more than a couple of times for this rebel summer breeze record.
With the uncertain future of the live music scene, The Chateau plan to release various singles throughout the rest of the year.
